Entertainment
Kuala Lumpur is a city that never
sleeps, at least until the wee hours, with night spots pulsating to the rhythm
of the night life.
As KL comes alive in a blaze of
multi-coloured lights when the night falls, there is always something to
keep you entertained with the profusion of lively karaoke lounges, pubs with
live bands and jazz, discos, cinemas and cineplexes showing contemporary
English, Malay, Chinese, Hindi and Indonesian movies, theatres, night clubs,
cabarets, bowling alleys etc. Local theatre groups regularly stage enthralling
Asian and Western dramas, dance dramas and the bangsawan (traditional Malay
opera).
Or you may just take a stroll at the pasar malam, the local night street
market, for worthwhile bargains.
Shopping

|
For avid shoppers, Kuala Lumpur is
a paradise offering a wide variety of goods at reasonable prices - from
world-renowned designer labels to exquisite made-in-Malaysia items, and from
department retail establishments to the citys famous night markets.
There is also a vibrant Chinatown with street vendors and night markets,
and a lively little India with exotic items to sell.
Shopping in KL can be a voyage of continuous discovery; a hunt for rare treasures
of the Orient, a branded designer good, an exquisite piece of local handicraft
or unique Malaysian products such as pewter ware and batik.
The competitive ringgit exchange, the variety of products, quality goods
as well as the ample choice of modern shopping complexes have made KL a
shoppers paradise.
Following are some of the popular shopping destinations in KL:
Bukit Bintang
Bukit Bintang, a prime shopping district in the city, is a haven for avid
shoppers in search of branded and local goods.
Jalan
Ampang
Among the popular shopping complexes along this busy thoroughfare are the
Ampang Park and the newer shopping centres at the Jalan Ampang/Jalan Tun
Razak junction. There are many boutiques for the fashionable as well as shops
selling jewellery, footwear, electrical appliances and electronic goods.
Bangsar
This affluent suburb of Bangsar has two modern shopping complexes, boutiques
and attractively decorated shops selling a wide range of products such as
antiques, furniture, textiles, cosmetics, household items and sports wear.
Bangsars appeal also lies in its extensive range of dining outlets
and entertainment spots, making it a magnet for evening social gatherings.
Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman
This shopping area is well-known for its antiques from China and carpets
from the Middle-East. It is also renowned for imported fabrics, batik, sarees,
leather goods and mens clothing.
Petaling Street
This KLs very own Chinatown is inundated with shoppers in search of
bargains ranging from dresses and shoes to fabrics, costume jewellery, dried
and pickled foodstuff, fruits and herbal remedies. Traders spread out their
mats along five-foot ways, offering brightly coloured trinkets, wall hangings,
teapots, curios and ornaments from India and Myanmar.
Central Market
Housed in a refurbished pre-war building,
this cultural bazaar offers visitors traditional handicraft-making demonstrations
and a wide range of handicraft items such as paint portraits, T-shirts,
personalised cards and plaques.
Recreation and Sports
Popular sports among Malaysians are badminton, tennis, golf, squash and motor
racing. Most international class hotels have their own well-equipped health
clubs, gymnasiums as well as swimming pools.
