Exotic Buildings and Memorials

Kuala Lumpur Tower
This 421m concrete tower is reputed to be the highest in Asia and the fourth highest in the world. Visitors can enjoy a bird’s eye view of the Klang Valley from its observation deck or revolving restaurant. The tower serves as a transmission station for telecommunications, radio and television.

Petronas Twin Towers
Currently the world’s tallest two freestanding towers, the 88-storey towers are the centrepiece of the ultra-modern KL city centre. These awesome towers house the Petronas Philharmonic Hall, home of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Petronas Performing Arts Group.

Dataran Merdeka (Independence Square)
Malaysians converge on the square every year to relive the moment the country gained its independence from the British. Located on the southern end of the square is the world’s largest flagpole (100 m), proudly flying the national flag with a magnificent flower garden at its base. It is an inviting spot where visitors can relax amid soothing rushing waters of fountains, elegant colonnades and colourful beds of zinnias, and marigolds.

National Monument
The monument was constructed in 1966 by the famous sculptor, Felix de Weldon, right, to honour the nation’s fallen heroes. The 15.54 m high bronze monument depicts seven soldiers symbolizing the seven qualities of leadership.

Sultan Abdul Samad Building
Now occupied by the Supreme Court , the High Court and the Textile Museum, this Moorish-style building was built in 1897 and housed several key government departments during the British rule. Topped by a shiny copper dome and a 40m clock tower, the building is a major landmark in the city.

Kuala Lumpur Railway Station
Another design based on Moorish architecture, the building is the delight of photography buffs. The KL Railway Station, left was built in 1910 and provides air-conditioned and modern facilities for rail passengers.

Istana Negara (National Palace)
The Istana Negara is the official residence of His Majesty, the King of Malaysia. It has extensive grounds that are enhanced by immaculate lawns and gardens ablaze with blooms.

Kuala Lumpur Memorial Library
A magnificent colonial style building, it serves both as a public library and resource centre.

Tunku Abdul Rahman  Putra Memorial
This memorial is dedicated to the memory of Malaysia’s “Father of Independence” and first prime minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. The memorial houses the memorabilia and artifacts depicting the life and activities of the Tunku, and exhibits records and documents pertaining to his premiership.

Tun Abdul Razak Memorial
Once the official residence of Malaysia’s second prime minister, Tun Abdul Razak bin Dato’ Hussien, the memorial houses a large collection of his personal and official memorabilia during his tenure as prime minister.


Sri Taman, Jalan Perdana, Kuala Lumpur (vicinity of Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens) Open: 10.00am ~ 5.00pm, daily Closed: Friday 12.00pm ~ 3.00pm, Monday (except Public and School Holidays), Hari Raya Puasa and Hari Raya Haji Admission is free

P. Ramlee Memorial
The memorial was set up in honour of the late P. Ramlee (right picture, centre), the country’s most versatile performer, musician, composer, singer, actor and director.
